Snow Tubing

Tomorrow I will be going snow tubing with my friends from college. It'll be my first time ever doing so. We'll be going to Boone. Should be an adventure.

Children of the Corn

A lot of people, and I do mean a lot, absolutely hate the children of the corn movies. They think that they've been dragged out way too far. However, I absolutely loved them! Over the past week or so I've watched all the movies except three. I have not seen the remake of the original, the second one in the series (because neither were available on Netflix) and Genesis (because I've not had time yet). But, from what I've seen, its epic! I find the series both entrancing and enticing. I like the sort of movies that involve satanic cults, much more than mere slasher movies. There's also the fact that all the movies connect to each other in some way. So, as impressed as I am, I am also surprised that there aren't many online forums/groups dedicated to fans of the series. If anyone is still reading this blog (doubtful) please let me know if there is a subreddit or something that I've missed. Thanks! :)

I Hate Vacations

You read that right. I absolutely hate vacations. Not going to the beach vacations (I love those!), I mean time off from school. Winter, spring, or summer break all make me want to repeatedly bang my head against the wall. Oh sure, its fun at first. Assigning yourself tasks to keep busy, playing online, maybe catching up on sleep. But after three days I want nothing more than to go back to school. I'll pack my bags and complain for hours about not being able to attend school. Now, of course, when school is in session, I take days off. Oddly enough, only when I'm tired or have a lot of things I need to get done, very rarely when I'm sick. But, that is my choice. I don't think its fair that the school tells us we have to take a vacation. If we want to be there 24/7/365 (Okay, we have to go home to sleep, but you get the point) we should be able to!

Star Wars

Alright everybody. I want to weigh in on the sale of Star Wars to Disney. This is very upsetting to me. I don't like any changes to Star Wars. Han shot first, end of discussion. But, if someone is going to change it yet again, I would definitely rather that person be from Lucas Films than from the company that can't even get fairytales right and tried to retell Hamlet with lions. -_-

I Hate This

So, yesterday I was wearing heels because I had to give a speech in Public Speaking. While on the city bus, a fight broke out, and everyone was asked to get off the bus. My shoe broke and I fell while I was getting off the bus. I now have a fractured wrist. This does not bother me. What bothers me is they put a splint on me that lowers my productivity. I do a lot, and while I don't get paid, I work on my own constantly. I live to work. It's my favorite thing. You should not be able to take this away from me. I don't care if I'm hurt. I don't care if I heal. But don't interfere with my work/happiness!

The Diversity of College

I have met tons of interesting people this week. But, for a moment, I'd like to focus on the multiculturalism. This week, I have made friends with a girl from Vietnam. I've also met a girl from the Congo, and a girl from either Palestine or Pakistan. I'm not sure which, as she just sits in the hallway near me and I happened to overhear. I think this is amazing, and I am considering paying some of my fellow students to teach me foreign languages. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Seriously?!

I still love college and I still have a lot of respect for teachers.  But, I think some of them need to be reminded that this is not Kindergarten.  In two of my classes,  we had to make name tags.  And, today in Western Civ, we have a syllabus quiz. A quiz. On the syllabus. Seriously,  professors?  Come on!

Why College Is Awesome

As I alluded to in my last post, I am in a community college program to earn a two-year transfer degree while being home-schooled in high school. The program is called Career and College Promise, and the state will pay your tuition. So far, I've loved the experience, because the nature of it is entirely independent. I've always been fond of learning systems modeled after the personal student responsibility found in Plato's academy in Athens. I'm ODD, so I'm much more likely to do something if I'm convinced its optional. You have more free time at college. Your classes are shorter and you don't have to stay the whole day, only a few hours. Everyone is also much nicer and more mature. Not a single person has taunted me the entire week, and everyone has been friendly, non-judgemental, and helpful. I love college! :)

Okay.  I haven't written in a while,  and I want to start off by apologizing for that. Secondly, now that I'm beginning to write again,  there are going to be a lot of content changes. I will,probably be discussing politics even more often. Also for my readers (Seriously,  do I even have any readers?) who are not aware, I did become an atheist over the summer, and just yesterday I started a college program. However, I will do my best to avoid discussing religion, as it is too easy a topic. Now, as for politics or religion or really anything,  if my views offend you, I am very sorry. If I post a blog you don't like or don't agree with,  you have three options. Either ignore it, unsubscribe, or post a cogent and well-reasoned reply and we will debate it like civilized human beings. I will post any hateful replies to reddit, where strangers will laugh at you and I will get karma points. You have been warned. That said, enjoy the new blog! :)

Taxes Back Shopping

Well, the good news is that my daddy gets his tax refund today. Well, he got it earlier, but I don't really care since I just now get to spend it today. :) However, the bad news is, most of that money will be eaten up with ordering two replacement parts for my laptop. :( I only get a hundred dollars, and I have to buy a new keyboard and battery.

My Review of Home Schooling (If Blogger Will Actually Post This Time)

As you may or may not know, I recently made the transition from attending a public High School to being home schooled by my father. I have wanted to be home schooled since I was little (call me anti-social lol), but our family just now did enough research into our state's home schooling laws to finally make the transition. I am happy with my decision, because it gives me a flexible schedule and a variety of classes. It is much like regular schooling. There's classes I love, classes that put me to sleep, classes I hate, and classes I have to focus hard at to understand. But, I think it is worth it.

Why Do Teachers Freak Out Over Exams?

Exams. EOCs. EOGs. Finals. Whatever you call them, they're a part of your educational career. And, sure, no one likes them. But, they're nothing compared to how stressed out teachers get before they give these tests. Every teacher is somehow convinced that they you are going to fail their final. They plead with you to come to review sessions, and assign massive packets for homework. Nevermind that you did great the whole year during their class. Nevermind that you've aced all the practice tests they've given you. In the teachers's minds, you are going to fail their exam. Period. Does this type of pressure help? No, of course not. It only makes the students waay more stressed out. So, teachers, please chill out. They're our problem, not your's.

Tech Support Phone Call Tragedies

Imagine. Your computer isn't working properly. You've exhausted your somewhat limited personal knowledge, and you call tech support. Big mistake. Two hours. Two hours were spent on the phone with the Time Warner Cable Tech Support People. I also, out of frustration, phoned Gateway. Gateway told me that I would need to back up my files so that I could "restore" my system. For those of you who, like me, apply an automatically positive connotation to the word "restore", let me explain what it means in the digital world. They want to wipe my hard drive. Clean. Well, I have several novels, and many songs, all of which would take forever to reinstall. The tech support dude, which by the way, none of them speak normal English, said that he would make a note for the next guy so that when I called back, they could walk me through the restoration process. I have bad news. I'm not calling them back. :(

Laptop Troubles

Well, my devout readers, I have both good news and bad news for you all! The good news is, I got a new laptop! The bad news of course, is that I cannot get it to work properly. I can get it to go to Google, and any Google site such as Gmail or Blogger. But, it will not let me on Facebook, Yahoo, or MySpace. Now, I can always get on these on my regular desktop, but that really kind of defeats the purpose of having a laptop. However, If you can help me out here, please let me know. Before anyone asks, yes, it is connected to a wireless internet!

2012

You know what absolutely stuns me? How gullible we are. People will believe the most outrageous things, no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary, and yet refuse place an ounce of credibility among simple, logical statements, with overwhelming proof. It doesn't make any sense! For example, let's talk about 2012. This is very controversial topic, and I'd like to stress to my reader(s) that even if we disagree, I respect your beliefs, and if you would like to comment or email me to express them, please feel welcomed to do so. Now, however, I would like to express mine. There is plenty of evidence against the world ending on December 21, 2012. There is Biblical evidence, scientific evidence, and historical evidence. Since I am a Christian, I think we should start with the Biblical evidence. Here's a verse that talks about Jesus' return to Earth. Matthew 24:36 says: "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." (NIV). Alright. While that may be sufficient proof for the 2.1 billion Christians in the world, but what about the 1.1 billion atheists? Which brings us to our second area of proof, scientific. I will not bore you with the loads of scientific evidence that says that we will all still be here in 2013 and years to come. Although, if one is interested, this information is readily available on Google. I think it should suffice to say that if there were indeed a serious threat, scientists would have discovered it long before now and would begin trying to prevent it. Finally, historical evidence. Most of 2012 believers base their evidence on the Mayan long count calender's end. They claim that the end of this final cycle marks the end of the world. I say, "Grab a history book and a brain!" While they are correct of the calender's end, and that it symbolizes the end of an age, many of them are not actually familiar with Mayan culture. The Maya were a deeply spiritual people. Likely, this means not a literal physical end time, but instead a cultural new beginning, or rebirth. I am getting very off topic. Anyway, with all this evidence against 2012, you'd be amazed at just how many people believe in it. Come on! It's utterly scary how so many people can believe in this, and yet there are still people out there who claim that the holocaust never happened. How can a person believe in something that there is virtually no evidence for, yet in the same breath deny the existence of something that we know for a definite fact occurred. Wanna know something scarier? There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of 2012 survival groups out there. These are groups of people who are prepared to start a new civilization over from scratch. A daunting task, which prepares for an event that may not ever even happen, and is extraordinarily far fetched. Meanwhile, smoke detectors are easy to install, inexpensive to buy, and prepare you for an event that occurs 117 MILLION times a year. Yet, no one prepares for house fires. :(

The Great Snow Day Debate

Alright. Now, we all assume that kids love snow days. Actually, there's about a 48/48 split, with 2% indifferent or undecided. Some kids oppose snow days because you have to make them up, which takes off time from summer break. Others adore the snow. At this time on fancy blogs, they would present two expert opinions. Well, here at the Mishap Chronicles, we can't afford that. But, we turn now to our unexpert noncorrespondant, Moonlight, with his opinion as to why snow days just don't measure up! Hi, Moonlight. Mind telling us why you hate snow.
"Sure. You see, snow is terribly inconvenient for the adults. And, it extends the school year by a few days. We'd much rather be on summer break going on vacation and hanging out with our friends.Besides, most of us don't even play in the snow. It's waaay too cold!"
And now, for a counter opinion, we turn to Marshmallow, who's here to tell us why she thinks snow days are the greatest thing since hot cocoa!
"Thank you, Jessie. Now, my opponent, Moonlight, expressed the major concern of many students that summer vacation would be delayed. However, as many kids will inform you, summer vacation always gets boring after the first few weeks. Winter is near a change in semesters, and is a very stressful, strenuous time for students. We need a break. However, the last days of school are mostly wasted on busy work. And, one other important thing. You can only see snow in winter. Not during summer break."
